Hello,
I have a few questions regarding the VCast Apps submissions:
1. What size is required for the Screen Shot of Application (JPEG/GIF)?
2. Once the app is submitted, can we go back and change an asset if needed?
3. Do you think it could be possible to add "Action" Subcategory for the Games/Novelty Category?

Thank you!

Here is the latest info.

1. For initial V CAST App Concept Submissions, size is not critical, as you will be asked to submit images at the binary submission phase where specific sizes will be more critical for use in the final V CAST App Store upload. It's best to stick to 40x40(small), 80x80(large) for the icon related images(30kb max per image), and the screen shots will vary depending on your target device screen size (10mb max per image, frankly if you reach 10mb per image you've been way over zealous). Keep an eye out on the VDC portal, "Smartphone - Go To Market," for new articles that will be more specific in this area in preparing you for the concept submissions and binary submission uploads. ... There are some articles published already and more to follow in the next few weeks.

2. Your information from the V CAST Apps Concept Submission is locked once you start concept review except for a RFI (Request For Information) status. Additional information will be required in the binary submission request phase specific to your app, too, following Concept Approval. Of note: An RFI update request will delay your review and approval while you get requested information to Verizon Wireless. So carefully fill out the Concept Application to avoid these delays.

3. I'll pass along your suggestion.

Remember these 6 V CAST Apps Store submission steps:

> Design and test App (this is your main task)
> App Concept Submission
> Concept Review & Approval
> Request for binaries, info, and final images upload
> App Certification (and Testing)
> App Published to V CAST Apps Store

Again, you can find helps on each one of these task on this VDC portal, with more helps to come.

Bob

We already have some apps "Content prog approved" in VCast App Store. Do you know when and how can we submit the binaries?

It's close folks, we are working hard on the binary submission phase. (See my Friday's post.)

Thanks.
Should we wait for your email/notification to tell us about the next step in making this apps live on the net?

That's right. You'll be notified via email. The site beta testing looks good for binary submissions of VCAST Apps to begin soon, but still it's several weeks away.

We have signed the on-line VDC VCAST Apps License Agreement version 1.0 and received an automated email confirming that our Alliance Contract has been accepted. We have also finished entering the content / assets and are now ready to submit our applications, however, we receive the following message when trying to do so:

"You cannot submit applications to Verizon Wireless until you have been accepted into the Alliance Program. However you can continue to create applications and save them for submission once the alliance has been accepted".

Can you please let me know how to submit our saved applications, and if there is a deadline to do so? Many Thanks, Niloo

For the new V CAST Apps, when you first register yourself to your own (new) alliance or to an existing alliance, you will be contacted by a Verizon Wireless representative (usually via email) to confirm your information and deal with any information that may need clarification. Remember, the alliance is the business (the dollar) side of your app which includes information dealing with payments, tax, business contacts, marketing, etc.. Once the necessary alliance arrangements are completed(usually a few days to a week, or two), then there is a framework for the business side of your apps. Many developers have multiple alliance relationships, including both themselves and other publishers.

So, remember for your first app you are not just submitting an app and its binary (as a developer) but also establishing a business arrangement (an alliance).

Hi Bob,

Can we expect an expanded/updated section, in the VCAST Apps Cert Guide, for Certification/Testing requirements sometime soon?

As we expand Verizon's Network Enabled (including LBS) features and access, you will see changes in the certification guide. Right now there are no updates.

Our App has been APPROVED for some time. But the status has not progressed to REQUEST FOR BINARIES. Have I missed an email?

Once the app is approved, is there any way to edit the long description? Quite a few features have been added and some are no longer available, so the description I had providede initially (In October when submitting the app) is no longer valid.

Good news. The last of the binary submission emails are to go out in the next few days, if not today. If you've been "approved" and get your binary email go ahead, have at it. If you're a forum regular you've notice up until now a few developers have been uploading binaries, working out the kinks, and bulk uploading. Again, going forward the "Approved" status on your concept application will most likely be immediately followed by an email to submit your binaries. Because V CAST Apps is in a "start up" mode, there was a delay between concept approval and asking for binaries, temporarily.

Let me clarify a few things on this thread.

Admin update, 10/17/2011
UPDATED PROCESS PLEASE READ NEW GUIDES.
Submission Guides (Admin Update 10/17/2011)
Android - http://developer.verizon.com/content/vdc/en/verizon-platforms/v-cast-android-apps/v-cast-android-submission-guide.html
Blackberry - http://developer.verizon.com/content/vdc/en/verizon-platforms/v-cast-blackberry-apps/v-cast-blackberry-submission-guide.html

FAQs (Support - Admin Update 10/17/2011):
Android - http://developer.verizon.com/content/vdc/en/verizon-platforms/v-cast-android-apps/verizon-vcast-apps-android-support.html
Blackberry - http://developer.verizon.com/content/vdc/en/verizon-platforms/v-cast-blackberry-apps/verizon-vcast-apps-blackberry-support.html

This Information below is no longer valid:
First, there is no such thing in the V CAST Apps process that as an official status of "Request for Binaries," on concept "Approved" (which is a status) you are sent an email requesting you to submit your binaries.

Second, the above 6 steps are right, there are a series of articles on the VDC portal that explains them. The third one "Upload Binary" and its companion "Get Certified" are the ones right now to focus on. Read Them! This is their link.

Upload Binary - http...
Get Certified -http...

Finally, TAKE NOTE of the FAQ. I would like to point you to the FAQ and in particular "multiple editions" and the "COD module name." Read the FAQ link below on how to do multiple edition submissions and remembering that each edition of a concept must have the same "COD module name" as its companion editions.

http...

Mark_1, you might consider resubmitting your concept (an updated version) with all the changes. It doesn't cost you anything, and the storefront is still not online yet. Think about it. If necessary, application deletion can be requested, plus the subsequent new application submission is the easier and most prudent solution. Besides, we don't normally make changes the original submission documents, especially if the concept has changed.

Thanks for the notes, especially the FAQ call out concerning the COD naming.

I know you guys are scrambling to make this come together, but I just want to gripe a little about the COD naming thing. No other distribution system requires COD files to be named the same for different builds. Further, the name of the COD files is included in the JAD file, so there is no reason this actually needs to be included in a manual input process. It should be read automatically from the JAD file.

Bottom line, these two points open the door for user error in submissions in two ways: ambiguity of submission and typos. If I build my app for different handsets, say touch and non-touch and then upload the files, I have NO way to sanity check that they are correct if they are named the same thing.

I am sure you have a ton you are trying to fix up as this goes to market, and these seem like minor details. I just felt it was worthwhile to point them out as the devil is often in the details and any time you can take the human out of the equation, you minimize errors.

Cheers
